About Global Risk Monitor
Global Risk Monitor (GRM) gives international business readers timely, reliable and easy-to-understand information on geopolitical developments, armed conflicts, critical trade corridors and energy markets — a clear, continually updated view of a changing world.
Open sources
Based on public reporting and observations, with timestamps, verification status and published methods.
Independent
Not affiliated with any government or interest group; levels come from published rules.
Global perspective
Covers the Middle East, Europe, Asia-Pacific, Africa and the Americas for international business readers.
Shipping & energy
Focused on the corridors, prices and inventories that move supply chains and energy markets.
Our focus
Global Risk Monitor gives international business readers free global risk events and data on key trade corridors. Every 5 minutes it collects events from news media, official bodies and GDELT, merges duplicate reports and labels each event with its sources, timestamps and verification status. It also provides vessel observations and replay for the Strait of Hormuz, Bab el-Mandeb and the Red Sea, plus oil price, inventory, supply and port traffic charts.
Verification status
- Unverified
- Reported by a single publisher so far. It may be an early lead; treat it with caution.
- Corroborated
- Reported by at least two independent publishers. Several reports from one publisher count once.
- Official
- At least one source is an official government or international-organisation release.
How risk levels are calculated
- Each event weighs severity × verification × time decay. Severity: low 1, medium 2, high 4, critical 8. Verification: unverified 0.25, corroborated or official 1. Weight halves every 3 days; only events from the last 7 days count.
- A country's score is the sum of its located events: ≥ 24 critical, ≥ 12 high, ≥ 4 elevated, otherwise normal. Regions also include events not located to a country, with thresholds 2× the country values.
- A country or region whose score without unverified events stays below the high threshold is shown as elevated at most.
- A level rises only after 2 consecutive collections reach the threshold and falls only after 24 hours below it. Every change is recorded with its time and triggering events.
- Category, severity and location come from keyword rules and can be wrong. Levels reflect the volume and severity of public reporting, not a security assessment.
